Have you always been drawn to the drum sounds in music or find yourself tapping your fingers to the beat? Many of you have asked to learn more about drumming circles and different rhythms and techniques. This monthly drum session will teach you basic techniques for the bass, tone, and slap sounds that make a drum come alive. Along with learning technique you will learn a few drum rhythms that will overlap to make a beautiful drum piece. Make connections through the drum.
No drum or music experience necessary. Drums are provided. Bring a drum if you have one.
Marisa Cuneo-Linsly started drumming in 1995, both because she wanted to learn more about music and because she felt a connection to the drum. Her journey started at the Women’s Drum Center. Marisa has taken private lessons and has attended workshops both locally and within the United States. Since 2008 Marisa has developed her skills as a drum instructor and has taught workshops and classes using drum rhythms influenced by Brazilian, African and Caribbean drum traditions. She has experience teaching to all ages and all levels of experience. Marisa has been a part of drumHeart the Women’s Drum Center’s all women’s performance ensemble for 20 years. Within those years she has had the opportunity to be the interim Music Director, both in 2008-2010 and again from 2015-2016.
